Wonderful yoshta berry - cultivation and care

Photo of yoshta berries, its cultivation and care

Growing and caring for yoshta is much easier than currants. Yoshta is a hybrid of currants and gooseberries, the creation of which took several decades. As a result, the culture acquired not only improved taste characteristics, but also ease of care. Yoshta has good frost resistance and resistance to diseases and pests.

Cultivation of yoshta begins with planting the plant. It is preferable to carry it out in the autumn so that the bush has time to take root and begin to bear fruit the next year.

Important: In order for the shrub to take root well, the soil must be prepared. To do this, fertilizers are applied before planting: compost, manure, superphosphate and potash fertilizers. It is also necessary to add lime.

You should choose a site that is illuminated and windless with fertile soil. Planting in soil with close proximity to groundwater or reservoirs is unacceptable.

Caring for yoshta consists of watering, fertilizing, loosening and pruning. Yoshta loves moisture very much; the more of it, the better the harvest. However, you should not overwater the plant, otherwise it may affect its development and provoke a number of diseases. One bush will need about 30 liters of water per watering. The amount of liquid may vary and depends on the age of the plant and the applied fertilizers. The main thing is that the water moisturizes the entire root system, which is located at a depth of about 40 cm from the soil surface. The frequency of watering depends on weather conditions and soil quality.

To retain moisture longer, the soil must be mulched in the form of compost or humus in the amount of 1-2 buckets per plant.

It is necessary to regularly loosen the soil near the bush and weed out weeds to improve moisture consumption and prevent the occurrence of disease.

Organics, superphosphate and potassium fertilizers are used as fertilizing. You can also use bird droppings or mullein. Fertilizers are applied annually for 20 years - that is, the entire life of the bush.

It is necessary to regularly treat yoshta from pests. To do this, before the buds open and before the start of winter, special protective agents are used: Bordeaux mixture, copper sulfate or urea solution. Even healthy plants need to be treated to increase their resistance to disease.

To be confident in the plant and not worry about its health, you need to take care of high-quality planting material. For this, it is best to purchase seedlings from a nursery, where the necessary conditions and modern technologies allow the plant to better adapt to the environment. In addition, such a plant will have increased resistance to diseases and will take root better on the site.

Yoshta does not require special pruning. Only old, diseased and frozen branches need to be removed. Pruning is carried out in early spring. When the bush has reached the age of 7 years, its shoots can be shortened, leaving about 15 cm.

Yoshta - feeding in summer

Feeding yoshta in summer plays an important role in fruiting. At the moment of fruit set, the plant experiences an additional need for fertilizers, which will be the key to a high-quality and large harvest.

At the beginning of summer, it is necessary to add about 10 liters of fresh mullein or bird droppings in the same quantity. Both mullein and bird droppings must be diluted with water.

In the summer, you can add 40 g of superphosphate or use complex organic fertilizers. A shrub that has reached 4 years of age needs an increased amount of potassium, and superphosphate is reduced to 30 g.

Organic fertilizers prevent the soil from drying out, which can damage the plant's roots and cause serious damage. In addition, organic matter nourishes the bush and promotes its active development.
