Where and how to plant Ezhmalina

After purchasing seedlings, the question often arises: where and how to plant raspberries? If there is a lot of free space on the site with good lighting, then the choice has already been made. Ezhemalina is planted in a windless place away from buildings and shaded areas. It is better to avoid planting next to tall trees, since staying in the shade will significantly affect the growth of the bush and fruiting.

You can plant raspberries in spring or autumn. Autumn planting is preferable - this way the plants can better adapt to new conditions. This planting can be done until the end of September. In the southern regions, the autumn planting period is extended by another month.

The soil on the site should be non-acidic and fertile. To reduce the acidity of the soil, you need to mix it with ash. Planting holes are prepared in dimensions of 40 by 40 cm. Drainage will allow moisture to flow down freely without stagnating in the roots. For drainage, the bottom of the planting pit is covered with expanded clay or crushed stone. If you neglect this manipulation, the roots of the raspberry tree may rot over time.

During planting, mineral or organic fertilizers can be applied, but a large amount of them will provoke the growth of shrubs and weaken frost resistance. Therefore, the soil can be slightly enriched by adding compost and peat, while observing the dosage.

After planting, the plant must be watered and the trunk circle mulched. The branches of the bush are placed on a trellis for better yield and easier care.
The distance between bushes must be at least 1 meter.

Where to buy raspberry seedlings

When choosing seedlings of berry crops, many gardeners prefer to limit themselves to their neighbors in the country or to the garden market, where you can buy raspberry seedlings in any quantity and of any variety. It is important to remember that, at best, you will not get anything for the money spent. Quite often, low-quality planting material remains on the site for a couple of months, after which it dies. The likelihood of buying a healthy plant on the market is low, and there are often mismatches.

When purchasing seedlings, try to pay attention to the condition of the plant. Ezhemalina should not be lethargic with obvious signs of damage. It is important that the root system of the plant is well developed. The seedling should have about 3 buds on two or three stems. All this indicates a healthy plant that will be able to produce a good harvest.

It is best to purchase raspberry seedlings from a nursery to be sure of the chosen variety. The conditions of the nursery make it possible to grow a high-quality plant with a high degree of survival on the site. Such seedlings have increased resistance to frost and disease. When purchasing seedlings from a nursery, you will always receive exactly what you ordered.

Ezhemalina - spring care

Spring care of raspberries is an important stage of agricultural technology, ensuring the plant’s full development and nutrition. In spring, raspberries need feeding and pruning.

Full feeding can be carried out only in the second year after planting. At the end of spring, nitrogen is used for fertilizing. If there is a shortage of this element, the plant quickly begins to wither.

You can use special fertilizers or feed the raspberries with manure or nettle infusion.

Mulching the bushes plays an important role in spring. In mid-spring, the tree trunk circle is covered with cardboard, onto which a mixture of sawdust, ash and manure is poured. The mulch is laid in a layer of about 10 cm. This method of mulching allows you to actively fight weeds and also additionally nourishes the plant. The cardboard will completely decompose in a year, and the mulch will be a good fertilizer for the roots.

Pruning of the plant is carried out every year in late spring to increase yield. To do this, the shoots are shortened by 10 cm, which will serve to form new branches.

Important: It is recommended to trim shoots if they are at least 1 meter in length, otherwise there is a risk of delaying the onset of fruiting. Further thinning and removal of old shoots is carried out in the fall.

In spring, the raspberries are again fixed on the trellis to ensure uniform ripening of the fruits and reduce damage to the branches. The fishing line is pulled in several rows, distributing the shoots depending on their length. If you don’t tie up the raspberries, the yield will be low, and the shoots will quickly take over the entire area.

Ezhemalina - propagation by seeds

Propagation of raspberries by seeds is an infrequent method that gardeners rarely use. Growing from seeds does not retain the properties of the parent plant and can only be used as an experiment. It is best to experiment with the seeds of berry crops growing in your garden plot rather than buying them separately.

Ripe berries are selected for planting material and need to be filled with water. The berries mix well. Those that settle to the bottom are suitable for planting. They are dried naturally and placed in a cool place until February. At the end of winter, the seeds are placed in nutrient soil in a small container. There is no need to deepen them. It is best to place containers under a plant lamp to speed up germination. Without additional lighting, it is better to postpone planting seeds to the beginning of spring.

Important: Containers with seeds must be covered with film to maintain optimal temperature and humidity.

After about a month, shoots will appear, and the sprouts can be transplanted into separate containers. To obtain seedlings faster, you can use special growth stimulants. After seedlings, the sprouts are fed and watered. Containers with plants should be kept in a warm, windless room until warm weather sets in. During the daytime, they can be put outside so that they quickly get used to natural conditions.

When the seedlings have reached 15 cm in height, they can be planted in open ground. It is best to do this in the autumn. Planting holes are prepared with a depth of about 40 cm. They are filled with a mixture of manure, ash and peat. The seedlings are carefully placed in the center of the hole and covered with earth. After this, they need to be watered and mulched. Young plants are very sensitive to cold, so before the onset of winter they need to be covered with any breathable material.

Ezhemalina – Izobilnaya variety

The Ezhobilnaya variety is a creeping shrub up to three meters in height. The shoots are thorny, powerful, growing strongly. To keep the shoots compact, it is best to pinch them and use the trellis growing method. Fruiting is late, but regular and abundant. The berries are large - up to 4 g, black in color, elongated. The taste characteristics of the berries are high - the fruits have a sweet and sour taste and a universal purpose.

The Izobilnaya variety has good resistance to major diseases and grows best in the southern regions. For central Russia, it requires shelter for the winter.

Raspberry shoots grow quickly and require regular pruning. In autumn, old, fruit-bearing branches are removed. The number of shoots of one bush should be about 10 pieces. Removal is best done with a knife or pruning shears, and the cuts are treated with garden varnish.
